A military dog, also known as a four-legged soldier is a special situation in the government military. The wonders of the world often include the bond between a man and an animal. my idea of writing a book and sharing the uniqueness of four legged soldiers came from a small introduction to a retired American hero by happenstance. My introduction to Charlie, a service member who was on the fields of Afghanistan and other countries during his deployment had me looking into how canines became military dogs.
My exploration of the canine relationship came as a surprise. Not only were the dogs on the field saving lives by loyally doing their jobs, their handlers were equally as brave by keeping the dog safe while the animal is on patrol in far away land. Hearing stories of bravery about four legged soldiers as well as their handlers from first hand accounts made me want to share how the dogs are American heroes. Dogs have been used in the military since the Revolutionary War, but today there is an elite team of human handlers who work exclusively with military dogs.
Dogs become Four Legged soldiers after lengthy training
The canines who come to protect our country do it with only the thought of getting a bone at the end of the day. Loyal to their human handlers, four legged soldiers aren’t afraid and they don’t mind getting their paws dirty. They work and play like any other job and they take their responsibilities very seriously.
Which brings me to the new book Four Legged Soldiers, the new presentation based on the book and the teacher’s packet. Highlighting the best the dogs have to offer, the idea is to share the job the dogs have been doing for decades.
The book Four Legged Soldiers gives readers a taste of what happens, behind the scenes, for a dog to become a soldier. Then it shares how the journey begins as the dogs travel across the globe in effort to keep America safe. Outlining the different tasks that dogs can be trained to do, these four legged soldiers are brilliant for America.
The chance to share this material had me focusing on two elements. First, I wanted to share the bravery found in the animals who do their jobs simply for a ball. Plus I wanted to be able to shared how what the dogs do so students of any age could easily understand. The dogs are a massive contribution to the military and offer unique aspects that we, as humans, don’t have capabilities to do.
